About Us

Life with rescue pets isn’t always perfect… but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Hi! I’m Kim, and together with my husband Mike, we’ve built a life that revolves around animals.

We’ve been together since 2006, married since 2012, and somewhere along the way our home became less about keeping things spotless and more about opening our hearts to animals who needed a second chance.

Today our days are filled with the love (and occasional chaos) of rescue dogs, rescue cats, and the wildlife that regularly visits our yard. Around here, there’s usually someone barking out the window because a neighbor dared to walk by, someone meowing because they’re convinced they’ve never been fed, and someone stealing my spot on the couch. Somehow, they always manage to make us laugh when we least expect it.

More Than Cute Pet Photos

OG Dog Mom isn’t just about adorable pictures.

It’s about the real side of loving animals.

Over the past several years, we’ve opened our home to many rescue pets, including several puppy mill survivors. Watching them learn to trust, experience love for the first time, and slowly discover what it means to simply be a dog has changed me forever.

Their stories deserve to be told—not because they’re heartbreaking, but because they show just how incredibly resilient animals can be.

Real Life Happens Here

You’ll find plenty of everyday life here too.

  • The funny moments.
  • The messy moments.
  • The “What did they get into now?” moments.
  • The “How did they even manage that?” moments.
  • The “Well… I definitely didn’t have that on my bingo card this year.” moments.
  • and so much more!

Because if you share your life with pets, you already know every single day comes with a story.

Why We Share

You’ll also find honest conversations about rescue, puppy mills, senior pets, pet loss, and the many things people don’t always talk about.

I’m not here to lecture anyone or pretend I have all the answers, because honestly, I sure wish I did.

I’m simply sharing what we’ve experienced, what we’ve learned, and what I wish more people knew. If our experiences can help even one family better understand rescue or encourage someone to give an animal a second chance, then every story is worth sharing.

A Little More About Me

I’m also the owner of Sunrise Keepsakes, a small business focused on personalized memorial and sympathy gifts for people and pets. It grew from my own experiences with love, loss, and the importance of keeping memories close.

OG Dog Mom gives me a place to share the everyday moments that happen before those memories become the stories we hold onto.

Favorite Finds

If something has made life easier, survived our crew, and earned a permanent place in our home, chances are you’ll find it here.

From cleaning supplies and rugs to toys, treats, and everyday household products, we’ll share the things we genuinely use and love. If it can survive life in a house full of rescue animals, that’s recommendation enough.

Meet the Other Half

You’ll also get to know Mike.

Around here, he’s known as the “Poppy” of the house.

You’ll hear his side of our rescue adventures, his perspective on living with our wonderfully chaotic crew, and probably a few stories about how we somehow keep saying, “This is the last one,” before another animal finds its way into our lives.

We’ve shared nearly two decades together as best friends, teammates, and partners in this wonderfully unpredictable life. Together, we’ll share the stories that brought us here, how we found rescue, and why we wouldn’t trade this life for anything.

If You Made It This Far, You’re Our Kind of People

If you’re here because you love dogs… Welcome.

If you’re here because you’re a cat person…You’re welcome too. (Our cats insisted I say that.)

If your heart has a soft spot for rescue animals…You’ll fit right in.

So grab a cup of coffee (or maybe something a little stronger) make yourself comfortable, and welcome to our pack.

We’re glad you’re here.
